Founded in 1994 by current Managing Director Jeff Parker and the late Jim Hurford, Hurford Parker has a wealth of experience in both underwriting and broking in the general insurance industry in New Zealand.
As a founding member of Brokernet New Zealand Ltd, Hurford Parker also has close associations with 12 other independent insurance broking companies throughout New Zealand. For clients the advantage of Brokernet is that it is an extremely effective lobby group, with the advantages of a very much larger organisation translating into negotiating ability on policies and policy wordings.
Today Hurford Parker’s aim remains to be ‘Local, Personal and Professional’ whilst ‘Insuring your Future’. We continue to grow, and now with a knowledgeable team of 13 dedicated staff we are Hawke’s Bay’s largest locally owned and operated insurance brokers. We maintain this position primarily because we are able to retain clients through the tailored products we offer and the best practice services we provide.

Jeff provides Hurford Parker clients with 28 years experience and knowledge of the New Zealand and global insurance market. His ability to negotiate on behalf of Hurford Parker’s clients is well known. He is determined for Hurford Parker to continue to offer its clients, business partners and staff an insurance broking company which is both innovative and leading. He is a Fellow of the Insurance Brokers’ Association of New Zealand Inc. and is a Director of Brokernet NZ Ltd.

Ashley has 14 years experience in the insurance industry having worked for Hurford Parker for the majority of that time. In 2008 Ashley was pleased to purchase shares in the Company which extends his commitment to the Company’s existing clients as well as Hawke’s Bay. Ashley is excited about the future of the company and looks forward to growing and developing the business with the Hurford Parker team. Ashley can assist you in all aspects of insurance including Aviation and Crop cover. He has a particular interest in Disaster Recovery and how to best utilise technology in this area.

Ryan was a finalist for the Emerging Professional Broker of the Year in 2010 and attributes this to his hard work and attention to detail. Ryan has come from a customer service background of 10 years both in New Zealand and abroad, most recently from a Hawke’s Bay branch of a leading national insurance company where his main focus was on client relationships and claims management. “Working in the service sector you must put your customer’s needs first and work as hard as you can to get them the best product and results”. Ryan and his wife Meghan live in Taradale and have recently had their first child, a son called Cole. In his spare time Ryan enjoys fishing, surfing and spending time with family and friends.

Dean has over 18 years General Insurance experience supported by a number of industry specific qualifications. Having held several senior management positions including New Zealand Property Underwriting Manager, Manager General Corporate, and Wellington Branch Manager/Southern Region Property Underwriting Manager, Dean is an experienced claims manager and underwriter. Dean applies his previous experience in a risk management based approach to programmes of insurance to ensure correct product response. In his spare time he enjoys general fitness training, martial arts, and last year re-located to Havelock North with his partner Vicki and son Oscar.

Roger brings with him a wealth of insurance knowledge having worked in the industry since 1972 and being part of the Hurford Parker team since 1996. “To work as an Insurance Broker requires an extensive knowledge of insurance which can only be gained over a number of years. I enjoy meeting our wide range of clients and getting to know about their business in order to advise them correctly”. Since coming to New Zealand he has resided in Havelock North and is kept busy with four grown up sons and two grandchildren. Roger also enjoys reading and travel.

Starting his Finance and Insurance career in London in 1980 and the past 20 years in Hawke’s Bay has given Giles a wealth of experience in the risks business people are exposed to, and how to mitigate those risks. Giles is qualified to work both in the UK and New Zealand Markets and has always specialised in the business of individual risk protection. As your Personal Lines Broker, Anna is solely dedicated to looking after domestic insurances. She is able to assist you with all matters regarding your home, contents, motor vehicle, travel, contract works and boat insurances. Having worked in the insurance industry for 14 years, 12 of those with Hurford Parker, Anna has plenty of accumulated knowledge and experience. Anna has a reputation for friendly, efficient and knowledgeable service. Born and raised in Hawke’s Bay, in her free time Anna enjoys hitting the gym, interior decorating and the company of family and friends.

Tracy has had 6 years in the Customer Service industry and of that time, over 4 years experience in the insurance industry for a large New Zealand insurance company. Whilst working in the insurance industry she has undertaken extensive study in order to improve her knowledge and skills. Tracy is enthusiastic and efficient and brings this positive attitude to the Hurford Parker team. She strives to build effective customer relationships by providing excellent customer service to her clients. She has lived in Hawke’s Bay most of her life. In her spare time she enjoys walking, reading and spending time with her family.

Jaime supports Ryan McBrearty assisting with premium negotiations, broker administration and client enquiries. She also oversees our Brokernet Funding facility and assists with our IT updates. Jaime has worked in the insurance broking industry since April 2004. She has quickly gained a reputation for friendly, prompt and efficient service. Jaime is always happy to take the time to run through any queries you may have. Coming from Taupo, Jaime came to Hawke’s Bay to attend EIT and decided to make Hawke’s Bay her home. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends and family and keeping up her general fitness.

Ruth joined the Hurford Parker team in April 2009. As well as having completed a BA Honours in Business Law and Business Studies at the University of Stirling, Scotland, Ruth has a legal secretarial background, with most of her experience being based in New Zealand. Ruth utilises her skills and knowledge within the Insurance Industry to support Ashley Rowe, and to support Marketing and the servicing of clients. In her spare time Ruth enjoys running, football, travelling and socialising with friends.

Raised in Wanganui, Christine has happily settled into Hawke’s Bay after living in Wellington, London and Auckland. Christine joined Hurford Parker in Januray 2005 as Personal Assistant to Giles Thorman, the Financial Services Manager. Christine has a strong client service background and believes the important aspects her role are to provide support for Giles, to ensure good communication and regular contact between ourselves and our clients. In her spare time Christine enjoys cooking/dining out, Pilates, and walking, quilting and Book Club/reading.

Raised in the Manawatu Tania eventually settled in the Otane area. Tania joined Hurford Parker in 2002 where she was kept busy with client enquiries, premium quotes and assisting brokers. Tania’s role changed within Hurford Parker after the birth of her sons Ryan and Lauchie, and she is now Hurford Parker’s Administrator. Outside of work Tania enjoys spending her time with her husband Robbie and her two boys on their lifestyle block.
